Anointing Ministry “Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:13-15)
The wonder of medical science is one of the marvels of our day, but we must never forget that it is ultimately God who heals. One of the many Hebrew names for God in the Old Testament is Jehovah-Rapha which means “God heals.” In Exodus 15:26, God says to his people, “I am the Lord, who heals you.”
We believe God still heals. He is God, and He can perform His healing work anyway He chooses. Certainly today God often heals through the miracle of medical science. But along with medicine, God wants and calls His church to pray for the sick. And so, based on the Scriptures, the elders and pastors of Big Valley Grace pray and anoint with oil those who are sick and request to be anointed. We do this believing that the Lord is indeed Jehovah-Rapha – the one who heals.
If you would like to request to be anointed because of physical illness, please contact the church at 577.1604 x321.
