Since 1948, the Modesto Gospel Mission has provided nutritious meals, warm beds, and a place of safety for thousands of poor and homeless men, women, boys and girls. Founded by Mr. John Haine, the Mission’s staff remain committed to living and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and meeting the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of every man, woman, boy and girl who comes to the Mission for help. Extensive use of volunteers is part of the Mission’s secret to success. Volunteer age groups range from pre-teen to seniors. They serve food, clean, distribute clothing, tutor, paint, help with children, provide daily devotions, sew, befriend the weary, encourage the weak, and too many other things to list. The Modesto Gospel Mission epitomizes what can be done when people come together to make a difference.
Get Involved: Volunteers: The needs are so varied that it requires attending a volunteer orientation that tours the buildings and presents all of the opportunities. Donations: There is a current need to furnish the new transition apartments with furniture (new), including stoves and refrigerators, linens, dishes, cooking utensils, flatware, etc. Prayer: The Mission welcomes people each day who bring their many challenges and cares with them. We rely on prayer for safety and strength.
Leaders: Vern & Barbara Deatherage
