Congregational Care
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me…I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” – Jesus Congregational Care is the umbrella for several of ministries at Big Valley Grace Community Church that serve various needs of people both within our congregation and in our community. We seek to feed, give drink, clothe, and visit the sick and imprisoned knowing that as we do such things to those who are the least, Jesus says we are doing them unto him. Throughout the New Testament we are commanded to “love one another” and “serve one another.” This is not an option; it is our obligation as followers of Christ. Jesus identified the purpose of his earthly ministry as he read from Isaiah the prophet, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19) The many areas of ministry under Congregational Care represent some of the tangible and very specific ways we are able to demonstrate Christ’s love and compassion to one another in our church and community.
